Kelly Stewart was born in Sydney and studied Visual Communication, hons, majoring in illustration at the University Of Western Sydney. It was here that she was introduced to the printmaking technique of screenprinting which would become a life long passion.
In 2000 she travelled around Europe and the UK. On arriving into Edinburgh she began drawing the Victorian, Gothic and Georgian architecture that the city has to offer. She joined the Edinburgh Printmakers workshop in 2001 and has been a regular member ever since. 20 years on she resides in Edinburgh’s oldtown where she makes limited edition screenprints of architecture, boats, animals , British birds and landscapes, as well as private commissions and mixed media work onto canvas.
Kelly’s parents retired to Wynnum, Brisbane from Sydney in 2018 so she’s spending more time in the local area, hence the boat series. It was here that the Queenslander series began and continues, offering commissions of other Queenslander homes to add to the series.
