De Gillett Cox

De’s painting practice is an ongoing exploration of innovative ways to work with acrylics. Capturing qualities of movement and sound in a static, silent medium, she aesthetically combines acute technical skills with great conceptual depth.

De is a master of layering, building archivally sound distillations of her subjects through textures, negative painting and transparent glazing techniques. Celebrating abundance through colour and light, De paints Australia with an intensity and verve of her own invention.

De Gillett Cox’s professional art practice long pre-dates her graduation from Griffith University Queensland College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2012.

Winning her first Art award in 1990, she has continued to be an enduring presence as finalist and prize-winner in many Australian Art competitions, including 11 People’s Choice Awards. Since 2012, De also teaches art online and to adults at Arts Tree, a non-vocational art school at Wynnum West, Brisbane, founded and run by her husband Graham Cox.
