I migrated to Australia from Finland as a child. Since studying Applied Art and obtaining an Associate Diploma in Fine Art from the Queensland College of Art I have consistently produced work that transforms personal motifs into abstract forms.
I have exhibited widely in South East Queensland including Brisbane and interstate with 12 solo exhibitions as well as taking part in over 70 group exhibitions, including Ulrick & Schubert Photography Award, Conrad Jupiters Art Prize and Olive Cotton Photo Portrait Award. I have recently been selected as a finalist for QRAA 2019 touring Exhibition. I have also had a traveling exhibition of paintings combined with Elizabeth Mosely’s poetry in nine venues in NSW and QLD between 1996-2000.
Many of my paintings and photographic works are held in private and institutional collections.
My works are very visceral and expressionistic, prompted by emotive impulse and a desire to make sense of the world around me. I am influenced by experiences of migration, felt connection to the land I inhabit, and the diversity of life experiences had.
Whilst I predominately produce paintings, my exhibitions often include sculptural components, photographic works and videos.
I generally work very fluidly and combine aspects of collage into paintings, painting onto 3D wooden objects, and even my video works have a painterly quality to them.
