Neville Wostear

My workshop is situated on the outskirts of Brisbane in Redland Bay Queensland. The area itself is conducive to the peace and quiet I require for the crafting of the Lyric Harps and Document/Jewellery Boxes that I now produce. Time seems to stand still when I am working with wood and it is an endless delight to just spend time sanding and preparing a piece of work for the final finish.

Different types of special woods and exotic materials, such as Ostrich Hide, selected fabrics and leather I find most interesting to incorporate into the finished product to assist in producing a unique piece of work which in many instances is a ‘one of a kind’ never to be precisely duplicated.

Application of a high-gloss finish is undertaken to highlight and enhance the beauty of the various species of wood used when seen under various light conditions. Pieces should be polished occasionally with a soft cloth and buffing oil or good liquid furniture oil. Apply to timber surfaces only.

My skills in woodcraft are continuing to develop to this day. Courses in woodturning and carving led me to develop creative turning of bowls, urns, turned boxes and finally to musical instruments and the specialising in Document and Jewellery boxes.

I was a long-time member of the Society of Arts and Craft of New South Wales and displayed my work in their gallery at the Rocks, Sydney. Hundreds of pieces of my work have sold and some have gone to different parts of the world. It was a most rewarding and creative time in my professional career associating with such amazing craft artists.
